IMDb Plot Summary: A young couple living in a Connecticut suburb during the mid-1950s struggle to come to terms with their personal problems while trying to raise their two children. Based on a novel by Richard Yates.
A Quick Review: This film is pretty intense: almost stifling at first, the film felt a little depressing, with not enough life to lift it. But as the film goes deeper it becomes gripping as April (Winslet) and Frank (DiCaprio) spiral downwards into deeper and darker despair.
The acting of course was excellent, but I felt that the cast were almost propping up the plot in places. Without its stars, I doubt it would have received as much attention. Some of the plot turns, for instance Frank embarking on an affair, was hard to empathise with, and a little obvious.
The twist at end was good, but left me in a weird depressed mood.
You have to be in the right frame of mind to watch Revolutionary Road, but I’d say it was worth a watch if you get the chance... if only for the impressive acting.
Score: 8/10
