Being Human

On TV: Sunday 23rd January 2011
Channel: BBC3 9-10pm
Episode Type: Series 3 Episode 1
In 1 Sentence: Simply the best programme on the box right now.

BBC3 Summary: Series about three housemates who happen to be a werewolf, vampire and their ghost, and their quest to come to terms with who they are.
Episode summary: If Mitchell is to rescue Annie from purgatory, then first he must face up to his haunting past. Meanwhile, George is arrested moments before the full moon.
Quote:
“So what did you use to kill her... Oh my God! You used the pot of her little Christmas tree!
So that’s what people mean when they say ‘Christmas does my head in!’”

My review: Being Human surpassed my expectations once again. How is that even possible?! Lacey Turner who played the title character Lia, was simply brilliant in her first role away from Eastenders. Despite watching her for all these years as Stacey Slater, Lacey effortlessly took on this new role and stood out amongst the regulars.
There wasn’t much from Annie in this episode, as they focused on Mitchell in purgatory, with a nice twist at the end, and George and Nina’s quest to find a suitable place to transform with the full moon looming...
Also introduced were some other (new?) characters, which led to a werewolf's transformation in a cage, were either the werewolf or vampire will survive. Riveting stuff.
I love how George and Nina’s relationship has developed and would love to see the writers explore that more. Another relationship I’m sure pretty much ALL the fans are dying to see happen, is Annie and Mitchell. Let’s hope something happens later down the line.
What I found the most impressive was how funny it was amid the darkness. With many a quote I could have chosen (above), the one I settled for added crazy humour to quite an intense scene.
Bring on next Sunday! Cannot. Wait...
Score: 9/10
