IMDb Plot Summary: A British Squad is sent on a training mission in the Highlands of Scotland against Special Operations squad. Ignoring the childish "campfire" stories heard about the area, they continue with their mission and come across the bloody remains of the Special Ops Squad, and a fierce howling is pitching the night sky... With two mortally wounded men, they make an escape, running into a zoologist by the name of Megan - who knows exactly what hunts them. What began as what they thought was a training mission turns into a battle for their lives against the most unlikely enemies they would have expected - werewolves.
My Review: It was in the middle of a camp-out sitting in tents that it was decided that we should watch Dog Soldiers. I was a little wary when it was said that there is an attack in a tent at the beginning, but once it got started it was anything but scary. It was just hilariously funny.
I don’t know if I can fully review the film as I missed some of the long conversations at the beginning round the camp fire, but to be honest we weren’t watching it for the writing. It was for the shocks and gore, but what surprised me was that it was full of suspense and done well. It’s a British production and set in Scotland but even then I found it hard to believe that they were stuck ‘in the middle of nowhere’ FOUR HOURS from any sort of village/town with a phone or water supply. In America I could believe it, but not in the UK.
Not as scary as I expected, the film was mostly predictable.
Overall, perfect for a camp-out sleepover party, but I’m not sure if I’d choose to see it again, or alone, for that matter. You need a bunch of people to enjoy the gore and scares. Also it really isn’t a good idea to drive home alone at night through the pouring rain after seeing this, but there you go!
