Hustle: S8 Ep4

On TV: Friday 3rd February
Channel: BBC 1 9pm
Episode Type: 4/6
In 1 Sentence: Escapist fun: The best kind!
BBC Summary: When the gang's friend Carol suddenly falls sick, the team discover she has been the victim of a sham diet plan called Eat Yourself Slender. It is the brainchild of Dean and Dana Deville, a couple of glossy American con artists who specialise in peddling unproven, and often dangerous health products to the general public. They will make great marks, but conning another con merchant is never easy, and Mickey knows they will first need to gain their trust with an elaborate convincer.

My Review: Thank goodness this this series has picked up and is now going strong with another cracker of an episode. This time the gang not only pull off a classic ‘breaking into an art gallery’ but they also attempt to con the hardest marks of all: con artists themselves. John Barrowman and Raquel Cassidy played the con artists to gleeful cheesy perfection even if the accents were a little off. And it was lovely to see Eddie finally getting some romance with the beautiful Jodie Prenger and it led to some sweet moments that’s nice to see before the show ends. All in all this episode made for some quality entertainment. Laughably unrealistic throughout, but that’s not the point. The point is it’s fun! Yes. Fun. Remember that? Not every drama has to have an issue or message behind it. Some dramas can be swanky, escapist fun with no effort required. I for one am going to miss Hustle when its gone...

Score: 8/10
