Being Human: S4 Ep7 - Making History

On TV: Sunday 18th March 2012
Channel: BBC Three 9pm
Episode Type: 7/8
In 1 Sentence: The show plunges into darkness as it gears up for the finale...
BBC Summary: Tensions run high when Cutler takes Tom firmly under his wing. Annie travels into purgatory to see what the future holds and Hal finds his wicked past catching up with him.

My Review: Cutler comes into prominence this week as we delve into the past and look at the relationship between him and Hal. It’s a much murkier past than first appearances and there are many fantastic parallels between how they treated each other in 1950 and today as the characters almost come full circle and Cutler releases his revenge on Hal. It was sad to see Hal’s brilliantly human love interest Alex die, but the feeling soon passed as we discover she has become a rather annoying, yet vibrant ghost presence who eventually helps Hal even though he was responsible for her death.
It all got very dark there in Wales as baby Eve is apparently needing to be killed which is adult Eve explains to Annie as they explore the future if she survives. It all got a bit too doom and gloom and there wasn’t much cheese and lightness in this episode, which I missed a bit. I know past episodes I’ve put down for being too light, but this episode went to the other extreme and tone of this season has been way off unfortunately, making it hard to love.
It looks like they’re setting up Alex as being Annie’s replacement as her character draws to a close. Yet, I don’t think Being Human will be able to survive many more seasons, as it feels a bit worn out even for a die-hard fan - they definitely need to sort out the tone and shake it up a bit, bringing it back to its roots...
Score: 8/10
