IMDb Plot Synopsis: Two co-dependent high school seniors are forced to deal with separation anxiety after their plan to stage a booze-soaked party goes awry.

My Review: Superbad stars Michael Cera and Jonah Hill as two best friends who are about to leave high school and start different colleges. After being so close since they were kids it is going to be hard for them to be apart, not that they’ll admit it. The film basically follows their close relationship into fruition with many a funny escapade. The bad language was a little off-putting as it was pretty constant but the few funny moments just about made it worth it. This film is for a certain type of person - Judd Apatow fans that enjoy seeing young American guys use crude language. The first half of the film was also quite slow paced so I found it hard to stick with. What saved the film for me was Emma Stone. She shined and was the only thing properly funny about this film. The ridiculousness of the entire plot was also funny but probably not in the way the writers were hoping. But, hey, Seth Rogen was one of the writers who also starred as one of a pair of cops who take Cera and Hill’s friend along for a wide night of trouble-making that gets more absurd by the second. It was the last 10 minutes that boosted my opinion of the whole film. It was sweet and touching, completely at odds with the rest of it, but definitely improved my opinion of it. The target audience for this film is clearly a young teenage male with a much less mature sense of humour than me so it’s no surprise that this wasn’t my cup of tea...
Score: 6/10
