IMDb Plot Synopsis: Rich and bored aristocrats in Rococo France play high-stakes games of passion and betrayal.

My Review: This film was dull, dull, dull. And yet it somehow won 3 Oscars? How on earth? Yes, the costumes are amazing but I found the acting stiff and there was no chemistry at all. The plot wasn’t anywhere near as exciting as I was hoping it would be and drawn out horrendously. I just don’t see what all the fuss is about? I can understand that there’s this supposed to be this web of deception and betrayal, but as we don’t really get to know the characters, we never care about them. In fact it was difficult to find anyone worth even liking except perhaps Michelle Pfeiffer’s character, even if she was somewhat of a wimp. It just wasn’t at all clever.
Perhaps its because its seen as a ‘classic’, and so films were done differently back then but if films these days were made like this they would not work at all. I was very disappointed.

Score: 3.5/10
