June: Top 20 (Part 1)

Welcome to June 2012's Top 20 where I run down my top 20 songs from the past month. I can't believe we're half way through the year already and its shaping up to be an excellent year for music! Today we're looking at 20-11, so remember to check back again tomorrow to find out what made the number one spot! So let's begin...
20. Park Bench Society - Room No. 66
One morning I turned on the radio as I was waking as I often do and this beautiful song began playing. It seeped into my subconscious and stayed there for the rest of the day...

Lana Del Rey - National Anthem

TUNE OF THE DAY #65
Today's tune of the day was my number one from this week's Music Monday and after the release of the video (finally!) on wednesday this song has become so much more of a favourite that it deserves a post all on its own!
Also I'm posting this today due to a lack of internet meaning I can't post this months Top 20 like I originally planned - but keep an eye out for it tomorrow if all goes well!
It's definitely been a musical month; blasting the tunes during revision and exams and attending the Hackney weekend last weekend. There's a fantastic abundance of great new music at the moment and it's an exciting time!
And Lana Del Rey is still surprising me with National Anthem as it is the perfect summer song, with a more upbeat tone and it's a great belter for car rides!
And the video is absolutely beautiful too... (skip to 1.42 if you just want to listen to the song!)

Music Monday #37

Welcome to Music Monday on a tuesday this week as I was travelling all day back home from London. I had an absolutely incredible time at the Hackney Weekend - my highlights being Chase & Status, Tinie Tempah and Plan B! It has to have been one of the best days of my life and one I will never forget! I urge you to check out the highlights here as there are some very special performances there!
I actually can't believe that last week's Music Monday was the day before my last A Level exam! Time has certainly gone quick!
Anyway, it certainly has been a musical week for me and here the top 5 songs that I've been loving (some of which may have been influenced by the Hackney Weekend!)...
(remember: cover=video)
5. Rihanna - Where Have You Been?

I'm at Radio 1's Hackney Weekend!

This is a note to let you know that I'm in London right now attending Radio 1's Hackney Weekend!
Go check out the event on the Radio 1 page! Also coverage will be on Radio 1 all day and on BBC 3 from 7pm this weekend. I'm super excited and particularly looking forward to seeing Rihanna, Chase & Status, Lana Del Rey, Plan B and Tinie Tempah among others!
There's also a great article about the event from the Evening Standard.
This video has really got me pumped...
Normal service will resume on Tuesday 26th June - see you then!

You're Free (I'm Free!)

TUNE OF THE DAY #64
Today was the day of my last exam and so as you would expect I'm pretty happy and excited about what the future holds. Short term there's a lot of cleaning, paper work and packing for my trip to London this weekend for Radio 1's Hackney Weekend! Beyond that... who knows? But I can't wait to find out!
Today's Tune of the Day can only be one thing which sums up my feelings as I left the exam room this afternoon: I'm free!!

New: BBC Drama - True Love

Starting from Sunday night at 10.25pm on BBC 1 a series of five episodes, each focusing on a different side of love will start. They will be broadcast pretty much every day except for when the football interrupts of course! But from the trailer below and the new Radio Times article I read yesterday it looks to be a very interesting, beautiful and heart-breaking series.
Even more exciting is the inclusion of the some of the best of British acting talent today (and some of my favourite actors) such as David Tennant, Billie Piper, Ashley Walters, Kaya Scodelario, Joanne Froggatt, Lacey Turner and Jamie Winstone. I also love the fact that each story centres around a different person and their relationships and that the series is supposedly improvised - probably making for a more realistic and touching drama.
I can't wait to review the series as a whole once I've seen all the episodes some time in the next week or so (in between exams and trips to london of course!).

Jay-Z and Kanye West - No Church In The Wild (feat. Frank Ocean)

TUNE OF THE DAY #62
I've been really loving Watch The Throne these past few months and after being obsessed with Paris for so long, I am pleased to announce that I have found a new almost-obsession in No Church In The Wild! I love the pulsing beat and... well it's one beautiful beast of a song! Have a listen for yourself...
