IMDb Plot Synopsis: A group of male friends become obsessed with a group of mysterious sisters who are sheltered by their strict, religious parents after one of them commits suicide.

My Review: This is one of the saddest, most mystifying films I’ve ever seen. It asks so many questions and answers almost none of them but that doesn’t even matter. The stunning cinematography and the heady soundtrack make the film work; with the intoxicating mystery the Lisbon sisters hold.
The sense of foreboding that comes with the title hooks you in fro the start. What would drive these five sisters to their deaths? It’s a tantalising question that is both beautiful and haunting to watch. The performances are all excellent and that, along with the directing from Sofia Coppola, is what makes the film float. The lack of answers can be forgiven when you’ve been privy to such a gripping piece of art. Kirsten Dunst and Kathleen Turner make up two of the stand out performances.
It’s one of those films that lingers in the mind long after you’ve seen as you, trying much like the boys obsessed with the sisters, try to work it all out.
Score: 7.5/10
