UK Release: 2nd September 2009
Watched on DVD: Saturday 19th February 2011
Rating: 15
Runtime: 1hr 35 mins
Tagline: This is not a love story. This is a story about love.

IMDb Plot Summary: An offbeat romantic comedy about a woman who doesn't believe true love exists, and the young man who falls for her.

A Quick Review: Cleverer than any other romance, (500) Days of Summer starts with a warning - “This is a story of boy meets girl. But you should know up front: This is not a love story.”

These quirks give the film an indie charm, that with the modern comedy and  marvelous warmth makes the film a rarity. The film is certainly not an idyllic portrait of love - quite the contrary. It is a witty down-to-earth look at what love does to a man, played faultlessly by Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

Intelligently put together non-chronologically, the story flits between the many days, good and bad, of Tom and Summer (played by Zooey Deschanel, one of her best roles). As Tom meets and falls for Summer, he gradually learns the lesson of love and fate.

If you’re not usually a rom-com fan, or even if you are, this film relates to anyone who has ever believed in love. (500) Days of Summer superbly reflects the ways of modern relationships and how love defines us.
Score: 9/10
