The Oscars 2011: Winners

There weren't too many surprises last night at the 83rd Academy Awards. As you can see below, The King’s Speech was the talk of the night with a few little shocks here and there.

For me the BAFTAs were much more exciting - partly due to the fact I could actually watch them due to being in Britain!
It was a disappointing night for many films nominated, including True Grit, The Kids Are All Right, Winter’s Bone and 127 Hours, who altogether picked up no awards. Between them they notched up 10 nominations - making them the biggest Oscar losers since the 1985 Oscars.

Let’s look back at the night’s winners and highlights...

The Brits 2011 Winners

Another spectacular night was had last night, as the Brits were broadcast live from the O2 Arena in London. It was hosted by James Corden, who for his first time hosting on his own, did really well.
This year was one of the best yet with some amazing performances, specifically Plan B performing alongside a full-scale fight with riot police (borrowed from Take That's opening performance?!), ending with a policeman on fire!
Other stand out performances were Adele, Rihanna and Tinie Tempah - who came away with 2 awards.

Here is my take on the night, featuring the winners and a look back at my predictions...

The BAFTAs 2011 Winners

Well, what an incredible night! Once again the BAFTAs were held from the Royal Opera House in London, where it has been held since 2008.

There were many memorable moments, including Helena Bonham Carter’s hefty speech and Rosamund Pike (in a beautiful Alexander McQueen dress) almost announcing the winner of Original Screenplay prematurely.

Obviously the big winners of the night were The King’s Speech - no surprise there! But who else got an award and was it what we were expecting?
Let's have a look at the winners as we relive the night’s awards...

National Television Awards

The NTA’s were broadcast live last night on ITV and there were many surprise winners.
I am big fans of both Doctor Who and Sherlock and was pretty sure that either one of them had it in the bag. I was shocked that the public didn’t recognise them, but hopefully the BAFTAs will produce the results that the programmes deserve.

Here is the full list of winners and who I think should have won...

The BAFTA nominations were released yesterdayThe British Academy of Film and Television Arts first started in 1947 and since have become the British equivalent of the Oscars.
The BAFTAs are one of my favourite events of the year, mixing the best in film with the best in television; it makes for an unmissable night.

BRIT Awards 2011: Nominations

The BRIT Awards have become bigger and bigger each year since it started in 1977. They are important in celebrating British artists and their musical achievements over the course of the year.
“The 68 nominations reflect all that is popular and credible in British music right now and sees the country’s most exciting, original and talented artists all up for the most coveted statue in The BRITs’ 30-year history, exclusively restyled for 2011 by Vivienne Westwood.”

Last night the 2011 BRIT award nominations where released at the Launch party in The O2 which will be broadcast on ITV2 at 8pm.
Dominating the nominations are Tinie Tempah (4), Plan B (3), The XX (3) and Mumford & Sons (3).
The voting is now open for these categories...
OK then, here are most of the nominees for you to feast your eyes on... and who I have tipped to win...
