IMDb Plot Synopsis: Rosie (40), a divorced mother, produces the has-been TV comedy You Go Girl. Her boss no longer allows the show to tackle any vaguely controversial subjects, so it seems doomed. Then she meets at an audition Adam Perl (29), an attractive, spontaneously funny, single actor. She successfully casts him, which revives the show's ratings. She also dates him, but her pathological insecurity, focused on their age difference, compromises the relationship. That culminates when she suspects him of infidelity with the show's star, and the studio gives those two their own sitcom.
My Review: This film was completely ridiculous but sometimes you need to watch a pretty awful film to appreciate the good ones! That’s what I’m telling myself anyway!
Paul Rudd was the saviour of this film. As soon as he appeared things picked up immediately and he stole very scene he was in.
One thing I didn't understand, however, was the whole ‘mother nature’ character. It confused me at first and just brought the film down a good few levels on the credible scale. It was short thankfully, as I don’t think I could have taken much more. That element of the film was totally bonkers - that and the wackiness of the fictional tv show she wrote for, made this film one weird experience to watch.
Without those oddities this would have been a nice run-of-the-mill rom-com about an older woman dating a younger guy with some nice laughs. The chemistry between them was actually pretty good but without Rudd this film could have been dire. He just brought effortless charm and hilariousness to the whole film!
Saorise Ronan was also excellent and there was actually a huge amount of British talent (even if most were acting american) as well in this film which gave it a different feel to the usual hollywood movies.
Score: 6/10
