Episode Type: Episodes 1&2
In 1 Sentence: The first couple of episodes of this new US series are addictive, gripping and well worth a watch...
Plot Summary: US drama with Emily VanCamp playing Emily Thorne, who rents a house in the affluent Hamptons for the summer, under an assumed identity to gain revenge on those responsible for betraying and destroying her father, sending him to jail.
My Review: I decided to watch the pilot episode of Revenge on a whim last week and within the first 10 minutes or so knew that I was hooked and there was no going back now! I love the feeling of discovering a great new tv show (old or new!) and Revenge is definitely the best of the bunch recently.
It has a Gossip Girl feel with glamour and money (and Connor Paolo the actor who played Eric in GG also stars!) but also has an air of something more realistic and gritty - which makes it all the more addictive!
The tale of Amanda or, as she is now known as, Emily is intriguing and as she goes about getting her revenge on those that destroyed her father it has both emotion and a calculated coldness making her and her actions quite unpredictable as we are still learning who she really is. She picks up some enemies, and friends, immediately and there are plenty of relationship triangles already forming!
What most interested me in the first episode was that it shows a party where Emily and Daniel (the ‘evil queen’ of the Hampton’s son) are engaged and a murder takes place on the beach. After that it is a flashback to how the story got to that place which adds an extra level to the drama!
Overall it is deliciously thrilling with adult mystery and teenage drama thrown in to keep everyone hooked! I for one can’t wait for more...
Score: 9/10
