IMDb Plot Synopsis: After a little white lie about losing her virginity gets out, a clean cut high school girl sees her life paralleling Hester Prynne's in "The Scarlet Letter," which she is currently studying in school - until she decides to use the rumor mill to advance her social and financial standing.
My Review: I was so excited to finally get my hands on the DVD of Easy A as I’ve heard so, so many fantastic things about it and I’ve seen so many clips that I knew I was in for a treat. And luckily it did not disappoint as it was hilarious, beautifully filmed and just a thrilling plot that resonates with probably every teenager on the planet that’s been to secondary/high school.
But this film would not be half as good without the goddess that is Emma Stone. She is a phenomenon at the moment and one of the funniest female comedic actresses since like Jennifer Anniston in friends. She does has it. What ever it is. Star quality, excellent camera presence... IT. When she is talking to her webcam, which is how she narrates the film, it completely feels like she is talking not only directly at you, but at your generation. I just love it.
The boys weren’t half bad too - Dan Byrd (from Cougar Town) and Penn Badgley (from Gossip Girl among other things) both feature. And Stanley Tucci it was lovely to see who played Stone’s Dad - the kitchen scene between him and Patricia Clarkson who plays Stone’s Mum trying to guess what ‘british’ swear word Stone used in class is hilarious. Almost every line in the film is a joke and there are some really subtle ones in there too that may require any viewing or ten.
Because that’s the beauty of Easy A - it’s a teen classic. It has it all it is laugh out loud, quotably funny, very clever, relatable and it even has some sweet romantic scenes thrown in too! Basically it’s a must-watch. So go watch it. Right now!
Score: 9/10
