My Review: Ready to sweep you away on a Sunday evening is Upstairs Downstairs, perfectly shot and scored to leave you warm and snug in your living rooms, escaping from the daily grind for one more night before returning to the real world on monday morning. It makes you want to run out and make a time machine so that you could take in the sights and sounds of the 1930’s with its beautiful evening gowns, atmospheric jazz bars and where John F Kennedy comes around for dinner!
This second episode of the new series remains to be just what was needed in this strange beginning of spring where there is still frost on the ground. The acting sublime (Claire Foy a particular favourite), the direction gorgeous and the soundtrack... absolutely beautiful. Yet it does seem to be continuing down the same old route and so I hope they shake things up a little more else there is a danger that it may get to formulaic. Thankfully there’s no sign of that yet and so let’s hope things continue that way!
Score: 8.5/10
