On TV: Friday 10th February
Channel: BBC 1 9pm
Episode Type: 5/6
In 1 Sentence: A strong penultimate episode that shows Hustle’s still got it...
BBC Summary: When Albert finds out a favourite haunt of his has been brutally demolished the team think they have found their next mark. The culprit, Dale Ridley, is a property developer who has arrogantly spent years bribing the right people so that he can demolish beautiful old buildings in order to sell the sites for profit.
My Review: I can’t believe that tonight is the final episode of Hustle ever, ever, ever... apparently. And so while I look forward to what looks to be an absolute cracker of a swan song (here’s hoping!) lets look back at last weeks episode! At long last this episode felt sure of itself, flowing nicely until the end with no letdowns in the plot department. And while Hustle seems to be stuffed full of cringe-worthy villains this weeks guest performance was just right as the wonderful Mark Williams (also seen recently as the vampire recorder guy in Being Human!) slipped into the role of property developer/80’s TV presenter gone bad. I loved the added tension of Ash’s godson being thrown into the mix and while it was predictable from the start that he’d be a troublemaker it added a bit of humour to proceedings. There wasn’t a dull moment as the con twisted and turned and, Mickey’s decidedly dodgy American accent aside, it was great fun to watch. And as I’ve said from the beginning of this series that’s what is so brilliant about Hustle: it’s fantastic entertainment. It’s glamorous, clever and funny and perfect for a friday night in. I’m hoping that next weeks finale will prove to the BBC that Hustle is worth saving so make sure to tell your friends to tune in and lets get behind Hustle. Great drama is worth saving!
Score: 8.5/10
