IMDb Plot Summary: In a bid to keep their luxurious condo from their significant other, a couple's break-up proceeds to get uglier and nastier by the moment.
My Review: The Break-Up is surprisingly a really good film.
It has real depth and is not at all a regular romantic comedy. The drama and dialogue is so realistic, almost gritty at times. The comedy is there but it isn’t in-your-face or too try hard, it really is a drama first and a comedy second.
This is a film that you can truly say you laughed and cried at, there was so much versatility. The supporting cast were all brilliant actors and they really made the film. And saying that the two leads were great too. I haven’t really
seen much of Vince Vaughn’s work as he mainly seems to do comedies but he really shines as a straight, dramatic actor here. He also co-wrote and produced the film, which he talks about in the commentary.
Which is another thing - I very rarely watch the commentary versions of the film, but I was so taken with The Break-Up that I watched the commentary straight after. I was curious about the relationship between Vince Vaughn and Jennifer Aniston, and it was sweet hearing them together. You could really hear their passion for the film.
I would definitely recommend The Break-Up.
Score: 8.5/10
