IMDb Plot Synopsis: The needy Gigi Haim is a young woman seeking her prince charming somewhere amongst her unsuccessful dates. After dating estate agent Conor Barry, Gigi anxiously expects to receive a phone call from him. However Conor never calls her. Gigi decides to go to the bar where he frequents to see him, but she meets his friend Alex who works there. They become friends and Alex helps Gigi to interpret the subtle signs given out by her dates.
My Review: He’s Just Not That Into You is Love Actually’s American cousin who unfortunately, while perhaps a little prettier than her English cousin. isn’t anywhere near as witty, clever and well... good.
It’s a shame as with all that box office talent it could have, no, should have, been a lot better, but with all the names comes all the characters. And so perhaps there lies the problem. There are too many characters for the audience to connect with and thus, while some storylines are enjoyable enough they don’t leave any sort of emotional residue.
The the few characters I do end up caring about, mainly Gigi and Alex become a wonderful little story with a little more originality and fresh air than most rom-coms. If the rest of the white noise was reduced and let the main storyline spread its wings a little it could have been a rather lovely rom-com.
Yet seeing some of my favourite Hollywood stars (Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Aniston etc) in one movie is fun and having such a good-looking cast definitely helps brighten my opinion of it however shallow that is. Sometimes that’s enough on a Tuesday afternoon!
Score: 7/10
