IMDb Plot Summary: The final chapter begins as Harry, Ron, and Hermione continue their quest of finding and destroying the Dark Lord's three remaining Horcruxes, the magical items responsible for his immortality. My Review: Harry Potter. Those two words have changed so many lives over the past 13 years or so. And yesterday it all ended. No more books, no more films. The end. (Except of course this thing called Pottermore, but who cares about that.)
Was it good? Hell yes. I would say much better than Part 1 and on a par with the third film which was my favourite. But... it could eventually take the top spot. It is THAT good.
Where to begin with reviewing it: dark, intense, beautiful, funny, incredible, thrilling. A few of the words that came to mind while watching it.
What I liked the most was the ‘calm before the storm’ aspect at the beginning. Harry, Ron and Hermione are in Bill and Fleur’s safe house talking first to a goblin from Gringotts and secondly to Ollivander to find out what they can from them. It is quiet, understated and a lovely nod to the past. I’m so glad the filmmakers have put in so many things from past films (Gringotts, Basilisk cave, Dumbledore’s office, Hogsmeade, the Forbidden Forest, Godric’s Hollow - the list goes on) as it nicely rounds up the whole series.
And the ending is a triumph. They played the twists magnificently, so much so even I was caught off guard and I’m a great fan of the book. The cinematography was gorgeous, the acting fantastic and the pacing was perfect - full of action as well as tender, funny moments.
And of course I cried you’d have to be made of stone not to.
Score: 9.5/10
