IMDb Plot Synopsis: The next door neighbors Nell Bedworth and Woody Deane have opposite behaviours and hate each other: the virgin geek Nell is polite, sensitive and well-prepared to go to Yale, while Woody is rude and his greatest expectation is to join a mediocre university due to his abilities playing football. When Nell and Woody are assigned to visit a museum together, they argue in front of a statue of an Aztec god. During the night, their souls swap bodies, bringing difficult situations to them. They first try to damage each others reputation in high school, but soon they discover that their dream of joining college can only happen with mutual respect and support.
My Review: This is much more of my ‘teen movie’ style than Disturbing Behaviour I have to say. Teen rom-com’s can get pretty cheesy but it’s the perfect escapism for a lazy Tuesday afternoon. I’ve loved body-swap films ever since I first saw Freaky Friday about 10 years ago and so the idea of a boy and girl swapping is an amusing concept - add to the that the heavily predictable (if not strangely odd if you think about it) outcome that the two fall in love you can’t help but laugh-a-long and is much more satisfying than many other teen films.
Mostly unknown’s Samaire Armstrong and Kevin Zegers work great as the two leads as they not only have to play their parts as girl Neil and boy Woody but, for the majority of the film, have to play the opposite sex. This leads to some fun physical comedy - which I don’t think we see enough of these days!
It even guest stars Sharon Osbourne as Woody’s mum - which was quite bizarre! It’s fun, light and actually gets rathe emotional near the end - definitely one for snuggling up under your duvet one rainy evening!
Score: 6/10
