IMDb Plot Synopsis: We’ll Take Manhattan explores the explosive love affair between photographer David Bailey and sixties supermodel Jean Shrimpton. This drama brings to life the story of two young people falling in love, misbehaving, and inadvertently defining the style of the Sixties along the way. We’ll Take Manhattan is a drama that is all about being alive and taking a chance, being young and kicking down the statues, and yet it is also a beautiful love story, It’s the story of that wild week, of Bailey and Jean's love affair, and of how two young people accidentally changed the world of fashion forever.
My Review: When this was first broadcast about a year ago I really enjoyed it and ever since have been inspired by how beautifully shot it was. Therefore with some birthday money I got my hands on the DVD and while I didn’t love it quite as much as the first time it is still a film/tv drama worth watching.
Karen Gillan and Aneurin Barnard sizzle together and I’d love to see more of Barnard’s work as he hasn’t done much since.
Yet ultimately it is the atmosphere that makes it shine, as it brings to life that achingly cool 60’s fashion world where the rules are being broken and everything is beautiful: the clothes, the places, the people.
Score: 8/10
