Shank

UK Release: 26th March 2010
Watched on DVD: Tuesday 10th January 2012
Rating: 15
Genre: Action, Sci-Fi
Runtime: 1hr 30mins
Tagline: 2015. The gangs have taken over.
IMDb Plot Synopsis: An action film for the youth generation, set in a decaying future London. A gang set out on a chase to avenge the murder of one of their own.

My Review: Shank was... ok. I expected a response and progression to Kidulthood but unfortunately it was a bit of a let down. The first half hour or so was so boring that I had to fast forward through most of it. It wasn’t until the girl ‘gang’ showed up that things picked up quite a bit.
The main problem I had with the film was the violence and its questionable morals surrounding this. However the directing was pretty exciting but I couldn’t help but think that it was made for the music video generation and thus didn’t have the necessary flow for it to entirely work as a feature film unfortunately. The soundtrack was also pretty awesome but its anti-climatic ending mostly let it down...
Score: 6/10
